The Chronicle of the Well: Awakenings By Author Deborah Barwick – Book Review

The Chronicle of the Well: Awakenings is the first book in the Raven Saga series created by Author Deborah Barwick. The main protagonist Jake arrives in the village of Welham with his mother to begin a new life, after a tragic accident. He quickly forms a relationship with the local barmaid who helps him to escape from his sorrow. But as Jake and his mother settle into village life and build their home at Damara Cottage, it soon becomes apparent that not everyone is as they seem, and they are drawn into an ancient conflict of magic and witchcraft.

This story starts off strong in the first chapter. The supernatural element grows as the book begins to pick up its pace. The ending comes as a surprise and really opens the story for continuation. I really enjoyed reading Awakenings, and found myself reaching immediately for the next book in the series. This is a solid introduction to the series and the characters, whom I look forward to seeing develop further in the next book. I award 4 stars.
